Honouring Our Languages
Three Nations Education Group Initiative (TNEGI) is committed to ensuring that our children and families are engaged with community schools where language is at the heart of the curriculum, the culture is celebrated, and people feel positive about their futures. Our Work Plan (2023 and Beyond)
TNEGI received funding through the Indigenous Languages Component of Canadian Heritage’s Indigenous Languages and Cultures Program, which supports Indigenous communities and organizations in reclaiming, revitalizing, maintaining, and strengthening Indigenous languages. This funding supported Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqey language revitalization planning in our member schools through 2023.
Building on this important foundation, TNEGI has continued this work with additional Canadian Heritage funding from December 2024 through March 2026, reaffirming our long-term commitment to language reclamation, intergenerational transmission, and community-led revitalization.
- TNEGI has prioritized supporting language teachers, who play a vital role in revitalization efforts. We celebrate their dedication and continue to provide resources and assistance to strengthen language instruction in our schools.
- TNEGI has launched public awareness efforts to highlight the ongoing language revitalization work taking place across our communities.
- TNEGI has helped lead planning committees within each member school to establish strategic goals for language reclamation and recovery.
- More recently, TNEGI has curated Wolastoqey and Mi’kmaq Language Resource Hubs, making classroom-ready materials and language revitalization resources more accessible to teachers and supporting greater convenience and ease in language instruction.
By aligning our efforts and engaging in meaningful dialogue, we remain determined to support lasting language recovery and to ensure a brighter future for our learners and our languages.

Language Resource Hubs
Explore a growing collection of Wolastoqey and Mi’kmaq language resources, shared by educators, community members and language revitalization sites. This external hub includes videos, teaching materials, apps, and land-based knowledge. A big thanks to Katerina Paul from Esgenoôpetitj First Nation for curating these for us!
